Communication is back!

I got a new phone! I switched from Verizon to Sprint to save us money and now I have unlimited minutes...so no more going over or not answering because I'm running low on minutes. I was able to keep my same number but I wasn't able to retrieve my contacts....I did get several numbers off Paul's cell but I'm still missing quite a few, so if you can all send me a text with your name and number I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much. Hope all is well.

On a side note...Can you believe how bad BYU lost tonight to the U? My brother, Skyler, would be so disappointed.

Wish my closet looked like Hers

I went yesterday to get pictures done of Brooklynn for all the grandparents. It was so hard to decide on what to put her in. She has so many cute things... ugh... decisions decisions. It's just so much easier to find her cute, modest clothes than myself. She is such a joy and lately has been doing just the cutest things...dancing to music mostly and playing like crazy in the bath tub. We just love bath time. Poor thing though woke up this morning with a runny nose and sneezing like crazy. Guess cold Utah has already gotten to her. She is ready for a nap so I am off. Still completely in love and obsessed with our little girl. Motherhood is simply the best. Family is what this life is all about... I couldn't be happier!

Carrie Underwood was Phenomenal

No surprise there...it was an amazing concert! We started off the night by leaving our dear sweet Brooklynn with Auntie Stephy (thank you so much Steph), and our friends Jay and Beth came to get us so we could carpool up to the concert. We stopped at Gardner's Village and walked around to all the different shops for awhile, then ate a delicious dinner at Chili's (love that Molten Chocolate Cake) and made it to the E center just in time to hit the ladies room and get to our seats. Little Big Town opened and they were perfect. They harmonize amazingly well together and the Blonde girl was absolutely darling. Seemed so sweet and sincere! Love a bunch of their songs too. Then they had a count down for Carrie to come out...talk about anticipation. We had two drunk guys (probably about our age)sitting right next to us who were very vocal to us about how in love they were with Carrie. I thought it was pretty funny. She looked beautiful as always and is probably one of the best singers LIVE...she sounds EXACTLY like her CD. It was so awesome. Our seats were amazing too- floor seats...Paul said Carrie actually spit on him (haha..not really but gives the picture of how close our seats were to her). She sang all her songs...changed outfits 4 times...had a different colored sparkle microphone with each new song...and they did a video montage of all her awards! WOW! She sure has accomplished a lot in 3 short years. Needless to say it was one amazing night. I highly recommend everyone go see her in concert when she comes to a city near year...it's worth every penny! Thanks again to my thoughtful, amazing husband. It was a great anniversary gift. I love him so much! And if I wasn't already before I am completely obsessed with Carrie Underwood. Wow!

Tender Mercies

I have not been very vocal about all the commotion surrounding Prop 8 in California- my home- but my mom just sent me this amazing email and I decided I wanted to share. It made me feel peace after days and weeks of feeling insecure and a little fearful with all the hatred towards us as Latter-day Saints. I am thankful for the tender mercies our loving Father in Heaven sends us on a daily basis and I now have a stronger testimony that our Savior has a plan and He knows ALL. I sit here today with a stronger conviction to always follow the prophet...enjoy!




This is the translation script of Sister Martz's-the new assistant Matron of the LA Temple -message during their devotional.

She started like this "The prophet Joseph Smith said that no unhallowed hand would be able to stop this Work from progressing. These past few weeks when mobs have combined and armies have gathered against the saints, the Lord has protected His house". She went on to say that those, like her, who were inside the Temple when mobs were surrounding it, did not realize how scary and terrifying this looked on TV to the rest of us, because inside the House of the Lord all was calm and there was peace abundant. After Propopition 8 passed, the Temple began receiving threatening calls and mail from those opposing it. They were warned that more than 5000 people would come to the Temple and burn it to the ground, and stop Its work. The first Thursday when the mob came, the new LA Temple President called the Salt Lake City Temple Offices for instructions. He was instructed to call the local police and to insure the safety of those attending the Temple by closing the gates. The assistant Matron said today, that it was a tender mercy from the Lord that the mob chose that Thursday to come since they had only one person coming to receive his own endowment that day, which he received in time to leave before trouble started. The LAPD and the FBI responded quickly to the Temple Presidency 's summons and patrolled the grounds and kept the mob from entering the same. Most of them had never been there before and expressed their surprise at how beautiful and peaceful all around was. They were invited to come back during the Christmas season to see the lights and they promised they would. On Thursday, November 13th, sister Campbell, a secretary in the Temple , was opening the mail and upon opening a large manila envelope found inside a smaller one. When she opened this one, a white powder flew all around her desk. She thought this could be related to the demonstrators and feared the worst-ANTHRAX. She contacted the President, who in turn called the Salt Lake City Temple office again for instructions. The FBI, the LAPD, and even the SWAT teams were once again in the grounds to investigate, and the Temple once again had to close from around 11:30 AM to 5PM. They closed the gates and were instructed to keep all the people there wherever they were found at the time. Those in the parking lot had to remain in the parking lot. Those entering the Temple had to remain in the first floor and those already upstairs were taken to the Celestial Room. Then, the miracles began to happen: A brother serving as a recorder that day is a Microbiologist by profession and used to deal with hazardous substances every day. He was the first to say the white powder in the envelope was only talc, and put everyone at ease. Then the sister coordinator upstairs was impressed to call upstairs to the sealing area, and said "They said we can't go down but no one said we can't go up, and I have many people in the Celestial room with their ceremonial clothes on ready to work. Could they do some sealings?" As it happened, there were four sealers present that day and they ran four sealing sessions nonstop while the Temple was closed. Downstairs, someone else thought to invite those in the Lobby to do some initiatories, which they promptly did for all those hours too, brothers and sisters alike. Among those waiting in the parking lot there was a large group of young men and women with their leaders who had come to do Baptisms for the dead, and who waited patiently all those hours and decided when the Temple was reopened to go ahead and fulfill their assignment instead of driving back home. The Temple reopened in time for the 5:30 PM session. The next day when recording the ordinances, they discovered that they had performed 2000 sacred ordinances on Thursday, only one less than the day before when three stakes had been visiting the Temple . Once again the assistant matron reminded us of the words of the prophet Joseph Smith, "No unhallowed hand can stop the Work from progressing...". But, this is not all, a prophecy was fulfilled also. When the new LA Temple President was set apart by President Uchdorft of the First Presidency, he received a blessing and these words were pronounced: " The time has come for the LA Temple to come out of obscurity and become an Ensign for Righteousness to the world under your presidency." The pictures of the Temple have been shown on TV, newspapers and the internet, not only in this country but worldwide. People of other faiths have called and sent letters to the Temple thanking the Church for defending marriage and protecting the family, and commenting how impressed they are by how beautiful and majestic the Temple looks . One minister of an African American church, who by his own admission had harbored ill feelings against the Mormons before said " I am impressed by your integrity and Christ like behavior, and even if I am not ready to consider you my brothers and sisters in Christ, we can be first cousins!."

With adversity comes blessings and growth! May we always remember this when we are faced with adversity again...because we know it will come again!

No Phone

Just wanted to let everyone know that my phone broke so if you really need to get ahold of me, call Paul, but I can't gaurantee he'll be with me at all times...like right now he is not. Anyways, I was going to use my brother, Skyler's, cell phone, but its not working right now either. It's so weird how disconnected from the world you feel when you don't have a phone or internet. We sure do live in a high-tech world, and don't know what to do without it.

3 Years!!

Three years ago today, Paul and I were sealed for time and all eternity in the San Diego Temple. It was one of the best days of my life (Brooklynn's birth being a very close second). We've been through and done so much since then, and I can't imagine my life without him. I love you so very much Paul. Happy anniversary baby.

Keeping Cody in our Thoughts and Prayers

My fragile younger brother is in the hospital. He was playing in his football game yesterday, was wide open and caught a beautiful pass then got knocked out. He was hit so hard the ball flew out of his arms about 40 feet. After complaining about difficulty breathing the school's athletic trainers decided he needed to go to the hospital. After a few hours in the ER, the hospital ruled out any broken ribs, etc...and released him. He went home to find blood in his urine so they returned to the ER and did a CT scan. After the results, they admitted him with a ruptured Spleen, a pocket of blood in his Kidney, and a fractured rib. Can you believe it? Poor thing. This has not been his year...injury, after injury. My 5'7'', 125 lb. brother is just too fragile. They are keeping an eye on him and his vitals for the next few days in the hospital. They would take a ruptured Spleen out of an adult, but for someone his age, they would rather keep it in if they can because it helps fight infections. We love our Cody so much and are so proud of him. He ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS stands up for what he knows to be right. He never wavers in his standards and everything is black and white in his world. He's such a great kid. Just wanted him to know he is in our thoughts and prayers and ask all of you, our friends, to also keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.

Fun, Friends, and Family

It's been so nice being back in Utah around great friends and family. We are so lucky to see my brother, Ryan, frequently. He is so good with Brooklynn and she loves having him around. If you can't tell, he and Brooklynn are related...haha. I think they look a lot alike. And when my brothers friends meet Brooklynn for the first time, many of them say she looks like her Uncle Ryan. She takes that as a compliment...she has great looking uncles.

Last night we went bowling with some friends. Paul won both games...but I do have to say I was a close second for the first game...only 5 pins behind him. It was so fun. Brooklynn loved the free glow-in-the-dark bracelets we all won every time we bowled a strike, and she was so content and happy looking at all the lights and listening and dancing to the music. It was a perfect evening out, followed by some yummy NY cheesecake ice cream from BR.

Love, Love, Love my Hubby

Paul surprised me today with another anniversary gift!!! I am so excited for it, I can hardly wait....Next week we have floor seat tickets to Carrie Underwood here in Utah!! Little Big Town is playing too! I know its going to be such an amazing concert! Even Paul is excited...he just finished YouTubing Carrie Underwood songs, along with Little Big Town. So cute! I am so so so excited!

That Little Baby Brooklynn isn't so little anymore

A few weeks ago, while we were still in California, Brooklynn had her 9 month check up with the Dr. Her stats were as follows: (All of which are in the 50th percentile)

Weight- 17 lbs. 14 oz.
Height- 28 1/4 in.
Head- 17 1/4 in

Can't believe how quickly her first year is going. Here's some of the things she is doing these days:

- She is saying a few words, although I realize she doesn't really know what she is saying, but she says "mom", "mama", "dada", "Paul or Ball".
- She points with her fist. Sometimes her index finger stretches out, but it's usually just her fist.
- She loves to clap and will do it whenever she hears others clapping or when we say "Yeah Brooklynn!" That started when she first started to crawl. When she would move we would clap and say "Yeah Brooklynn", so after that she liked to crawl just a little bit then she would stop, sit up and start clapping for herself! So cute.
- She loves to play with her two front teeth, using her tongue. It's pretty funny.
- She also likes to suck on the inside of her bottom lip, which makes for some pretty funny noises.
- She loves the bath, although she is a little hesitant to lean forward or crawl in the tub. When I lay her on her back to wash her hair, she kicks and splashes like crazy...Laughing out loud too of course. It's my favorite part of bath time.
- Her hair is still so crazy. Paul loves after I pull her pigtail out because her hair sticks straight up- like a shark fin!
- She crawls all over the place...not really super fast but fast enough. She will follow me wherever I go...whether its into the kitchen or down the hall to our bedroom.
- She is really good at keeping all articles of clothing on...including bows, shoes, and socks. People are amazed that she doesn't pull at them...at least not yet right?!
- She has loved all the baby food we introduced her to, except for vegetable chicken dinner...In fact, she disliked that one so much that she gagged herself and threw it all up! Gross I know.
- She wants to eat and drink everything mom and dad have, but daddy wants to be very strict about what we give her. Ice cream is out of the question...at least for now...or at least when daddy is around! Haha.
- She can hold up her own bottle to feed herself. So nice.
- She is the best eater...opening up her mouth when she is ready for a bite or when the spoon is close to her mouth and keeping it closed when she is full. Easy signs for mommy to read and understand.
- She can hold and drink out of a sippy cup.
- Everything is still going into her mouth, except pieces of food we give her, isn't that strange? She'll just stare at the food and move it from hand to hand.
- She wakes up so happy...sitting up and talking in her crib! Paul and I rush to be the first one to her room to get her in the mornings! It's just the best.
- She has grown out of all her little baby toys but we want to wait til Christmas to get her some new ones.
- She loves other babies and will wave and smile at everyone.
- She reaches up or out to you to hold you and goes to anyone!
- She loves to play with hair.
- She loves the satin part of her blankets being rubbed on her face or just being able to hold onto them.
- She loves to have my hair rubbed on her face. She laughs all the time at that.
- She bounces to music to dance. Love this too. Mommy and her dance in our rooms when nobody is watching (or at least we are hoping nobody is watching).
- She loves to stick her finger in my mouth and thinks its so funny when I suck on it!
- She loves remotes, cell phones, all the electronics that Daddy DOES NOT want her to play with.
- She loves to watch her Baby Einstein and her favorite part is at the end when the dog is on and doing tricks. She claps to it and gets all excited by bouncing up and down. And I swear the other day at that part I heard her say "woof woof" like a dog bark, but Paul doesn't believe it.
- She loves animals. She loves that Veronica pup....really really loves that Scout, and Puma. Scout is the best at letting her touch and grab her...she just takes it.
- She can pull herself up on furniture to stand up.
- She shakes her head back and forth when she is tired but trying to stay awake, along with making noises to accomplish the same end result!

Overall, she is just an extremely happy and content baby! And I promise I am not exaggerating just to make my life sound more perfect or wonderful than it really is. Seriously, she is just simply a happy baby. She makes my day, EVERYDAY! I could not be more happy about the joys of motherhood. I feel like it is what I was born to do.

Happy Anniversary!

Okay so our 3rd anniversary is only a week away! Cannot believe how fast time flies, while at the same time feeling like we've been married FOREVER already. Weird how that works. Anyways, we decided instead of doing a weekend away or some big night out this year, we would treat ourselves to a few new purchases that we have been wanting/needing instead. So we purchased a front load washer and dryer set and we FINALLY got ourselves a KING SIZED BED- I know can you believe I've been sleeping next to my 6'4'' husband with lethal knees and elbows for three years in a queen sized bed?!! I have the bruises to prove it. The bed was kind of a funny story. We found something we thought we liked but weren't sure if we wanted to spend that much money so we continued shopping around and found another mattress very similar (or at least we thought at the time) to the one we really liked only it was like 60% off so we bought it. My brother helped Paul carry it up to our 3rd floor unit and we could hardly wait to go to sleep that night. Haha joke was on us. Let's just say I ended up sleeping in our guest bedroom for the night because my back was aching from our BRAND NEW BED! I was so mad! Literally I was in tears because since it was 60% off it was a final sale-no returns, no exchanges. I thought we were so screwed. I even started a post to sell it on craigslist the next morning, but luckily we didn't have to because Paul called the place we bought it at and worked out a deal to exchange our mattress for our washer and dryer. It was a win win for us and the store. So we brought home the washer and dryer. Best purchase ever because Paul was so excited he stayed up til 1 am setting them up and then the next morning did all the laundry- 3 loads- folded and hung everything up! Can you believe it! I was amazed. It was a blissful day...that alone was a great anniversary gift. So we did get an amazing mattress too. In fact, Paul is just about ready to go pick it up. Thanks to my cousin Pat too, who got us a 5% family discount! Every little penny helps! I am so excited now to go to sleep tonight...on a mattress I already know I really, really love. So Happy Anniversary to us! I love Paul...he truly does spoil me. And now our anniversary dinner next week is going to be at McDonalds...Dollar menu here we come. j/k.

Cabo and California

Most everyone knows we just recently got back from a Cabo Cruise and trip to California. Can I just say we are huge cruise fans now! It was a blast to say the least. It was most importantly a much needed vacation and time for Paul and I to spend together. However I left with such mixed emotions. I was so excited to go but I was sad to leave Brooklynn behind. She stayed with my parents for the 4 days and I knew she was in terrific hands, but it was still hard. It was the first time I had left her over night..let alone 4 nights. The night before I was so nervous I texted Meradith, who was also leaving her baby, and we had a good heart to heart, which made me feel better and able to sleep. I wasn't nervous that Brooklynn wouldn't be taken care of, I was just nervous she wouldn't be good for my family and they might get annoyed with her and I thought that she might forget me and oh how bad that would hurt! I had crazy scenario's taunting my thoughts...and come to find out it was all for nothing because she was good for my parents (although she did get a little sick over the weekend, which worried my mom and consequently Brooklynn had one bad night due to her inability to breath out of her stuffed-up nose), and SHE DIDN'T FORGET ME! In fact she was so happy and excited to see me. It was the best reunion. I couldn't have asked for more. Thank you mom, dad, Shayna, and Cody for taking such great care of her, for loving her so much and for also taking and picking us up at the dock! We love you all so much!

So that Thursday morning we left for the airport, Brooklynn flew with us (well actually was with Auntie Stephy the whole flight...sound asleep...thanks Steph)and my mom met us at the airport in San Diego to pick us up and take us to the dock and take Brooklynn home with her. I was brave. No tears, just a little damp eye balls. It took us awhile to check in because of the 30 booths or so, we got stuck with the lady who was new and not very quick on the computer. None the less we made it on the boat successfully. Next time we'll carry on our luggage though because it took FOREVER to get to our room. We explored the ship, did the mandatory emergency plan (lame), and departed on our way to Cabo San Lucas! There was so much to do, so many friends to hang out with and food to eat.

So for the highlights... First off, Paul volunteered to be hypnotized at the hypnotist show. It was pretty funny. Although, the girl next to him pretty much was ALL OVER him (I have many witnesses to attest) she was all up on his leg and snuggling close. My face was red with embarrassment. But it made for a great show! We had several people in our Northstar group on that stage so there was always someone doing something hilarious!

For our day in Cabo, Paul and I were able to go para sailing together. It is something I have always wanted to do, Paul had already done it but he was a trooper to come along with me and do it again. The captain of our boat was easily persuaded by Paul to allow us to go up together, even though our combined weight exceeded the maximum weight limit. Happy to report we returned safely and all went well. The water was amazing there. I swam at Lover's Beach with the girls, while Paul snorkeled with the guys. He also kayaked, while I was happy to ride back in the shuttle boat. We had some pretty lame tacos (in Mexico I know! So disappointing), which Paul thought were incredibly over priced, but what can you do??!! And we headed back to the Elation (the name of our particular cruise ship).

On the Halloween night, Paul dressed up as Michael Phelps...which scored him 2nd place in the costume contest (behind Napoleon and Deb, whose dance, I must say is really what won them the contest, however it was an AMAZING performance, and they did look just like Napoleon and Deb), and A LOT, and I mean A LOT of attention. He had women asking him to take pictures with him, drunk women who were pinching his butt. He was a little shy, but let's be honest, we all knew he was loving all the attention.

Other than that we enjoyed lots of funny moments at karaoke nights, playing wizard, watching the boys dance, and play volleyball. It was relaxing and just perfect. No complaints.

I have some great videos to post as well as soon as I get them from my mother-in-law. Just classic...makes me laugh just thinking about them.

So after deboarding, we headed back to Murrieta. We stayed with my parents for a few days. We were able to visit Grandma Giddings and Grammy Ridley. Always good to see them. Both loved seeing Brooklynn and how big she has gotten. We were also able to see Josh and Cassie's new beautiful home! Can't wait to see all the things they will do with it. So happy and excited for them...now if only that little baby girl can get here soon!! I'm sure Cassie is starting to count down the days (or at least the weeks), but we are planning on being in California for Christmas and the birth of our new little niece and we are really looking forward to it!

While home, we started preparations on Skyler's Christmas package in the mission field. We made him a Christmas tree, using our painted green hands for the branches. My mom is so cute and is the best missionary mom. My brothers are lucky. Anyways, Brooklynn wasn't too sure what to think about the paint on her hands and mommy forcing her to place it on the paper. Nonetheless we were successful at getting her to do it. It was a quick few days but we'll be back in Cali soon.

When our vacation came to a close, Paul drove the truck back to Utah (which we had left this summer when we went to Texas), and Brooklynn and I flew home. The flight had so few people on it that Brooklynn and I got a whole row to ourselves! So I placed her in the seat next to me and buckled her up! She loved it. And as always, she was the best baby on the plane...I mean it's only like her 15th time flying...she's practically a pro now!

End of Summer

At last we finished our summer responsibilities only to embark on another! The last day of the extension was October 10th. For our last escapade in the south we went to Six Flags in San Antonio. Paul took his Dramamine in hopes he would not feel too much motion sickness but it didn't work as well as he thought and therefore took it pretty easy for the day. I on the other hand tackled all the big roller coasters. It was a fun day but I think California's Six Flags is much better. Then again Paul and I also realized that amusement parks aren't as fun as they used to be. Dang it...when did we grow up and become so boring??!! Packing and moving is always such a wonderful experience! HA! Moving out was not so bad...but moving in was miserable. The drive back to Happy Valley was not bad at all. Brooklynn was amazing as usual. We stayed the night somewhere in New Mexico and took our time a little bit. When we arrived in Utah we were able to go straight to our new place (thanks to Kate Ball and Jenna who got our key). We found a condo- unfortunately on the third floor...ouch- nothing special but it's month-to-month, which is just what we need in order to leave in another 6 months for another summer program. Anyways, we unpacked in three stages. First we unloading all of our things from Texas...then our storage unit..and finally all our stuff we brought back from California after the cruise. And of course Paul was an absolute gem with a smile on his face the ENTIRE time he was moving heavy boxes and furniture up three flights of stairs. Oh can I say how much he loved me all those days!!! Thanks to everyone who helped us move...my brother Ryan, Steven, Ryan Alspach, and Jay Dresser. Don't know what Paul would have done without you!

Once we got a little settled in, Brooklynn and I went with my cousins, Lana and Breanne and their kids, to Cornbelly's at Thanksgiving Point. It was such a beautiful day and a blast to get out and visit with the girls. Brooklynn strolled in her stroller pretty much the whole time and was a trooper. It was fun to watch the little ones play too...they had a lot of cool things to do.

Then the first weekend we were home was the Northstar Company banquet at the Joseph Smith building in Salt Lake. Josh and Cassie, and good ol' Brandon Hoyt, came to stay with us, and Mike and Laura along with Claire and Jana popped in and out as well. The banquet was fun. We ate great food...got to see and visit with many of the people we had worked with over the summer and the boys got acknowledged for their hard work this summer! Paul actually won a door prize too...some expensive watch. We were so excited about it because we never win anything. But he took it back and got some MEK jeans instead. We have just been so happy working with Northstar and really feel blessed to be apart of such a wonderful company. They have done so much for Paul and I and we really feel valued, respected, and appreciated there...so Paul is again starting to recruit for next summer. Oh the life of summer sales. Anyways...we are happy to be back...proud to say we finished another summer...grateful for all our blessings, especially amazing friends! We developed some really great, long-lasting friendships this summer that always make me smile! Here's to a warmer winter (PLEASE!!!) and preparation for an even better summer in 2009!

Halloween

Holidays are fun again!!! I can't remember the last time I did anything for Halloween. Now that we have Brooklynn, there's something to look forward to and this year didn't disappoint for sure. We were able to go up to Logan for Halloween to spend with the Giddings' family. Brooklynn, as you can see, was a flower and I can hardly stand how cute she was! The evening was perfect. We had chili and passed out candy to the trick or treaters and then went around the neighborhood with Brooklynn and her cousins, Taylor and Kye. I mean even Brooklynn got some candy, or in other words, mommy and daddy got some candy! After visiting for awhile and taking pictures we headed back to Happy Valley. Totally worth the drive...we had a fun night.

Back in Happy Valley

So I realize I have not blogged for sometime now...that's because we moved, had family in town for a weekend for our company banquet, went on a cruise, visited with family in California, visited with family in Logan, and now I don't have my pictures to post. Our camera card accidentally got deleted, but thankfully after they were downloaded to my Mother-in-law's computer, so now I'm just working on retrieving those pictures (and hilarious videos) so I can post them and all about our recent travels. So as soon as I get those pictures I will play catch up for the last month. But we are doing great! Brooklynn is crawling all over the place but even still is just the best baby! I keep being told to watch out for my next because Brooklynn is so good. Paul is already working on staffing his office for next summer, but has also decided to go back to school next semester. It will be a busy time for him. I am filling my days keeping up with Brooklynn and I love it. It is nice though to have those moments every once in awhile when Paul steps up and gives me a break from our beautiful baby Brooklynn. Right now I am up too early because I did not know it was day light savings time. Paul went back to sleep but I figured Brooklynn and I can just be ready early for church...which in fact I am so excited for because we are in a new ward- full of young married families and I am just excited to get involved in a ward again after not being so over the summer.
