Now back to our shopping trip with Daddy. We were at Kohls and I was busy trying to convince Paul to try on some "sailor shoes", which he did but complained his feet were too wide and the shoes hurt his feet. While I tried to convince him that sometimes beauty is pain and those shoes were in and he looked super hip in them, Brooklynn was busy trying on shoes of her own- the nasty Dora light up shoes that I will NEVER, mark my words, NEVER buy for my kids. She wanted them, but I told her no and she put them back. Paul and I compromised on a different pair of shoes (which I really don't like but has nothing to do with the story) and went to the cashier to purchase. While I paid the lady with my Kohl's card to get the extra discount, Paul headed out to the car with Maylee in the stroller to get a head start on getting her in the car. After an hour or so at home, we discovered some pink shoes, not the Dora shoes but some pink ballerina shoes. I asked Paul, where did these come from? (of course I KNOW I did not buy such hideous apparel for Brooklynn) and Paul just started to laugh. Brooklynn must have put them in the stroller! I about died! I asked Paul if the door went off when he left the store with the stroller- you know to alert Kohls that someone was trying to steal something! He said not at all! Great. A discussion then followed trying to explain to brooklynn that we have to buy things and she needs to tell mommy or daddy if she puts something in the stroller or cart.
Of course we needed to take them back. It took almost 2 week before I had the chance to go, but away to Kohls we went. When we arrived at the customer service desk I explained to the lady what had happened and with tears streaming down Brooklynn's face she said, "I'm sorry." Then the customer service lady started to cry. She thought it was the sweetest thing she'd ever seen. I gave my Brooklynn a great big hug and told her how much I love her! Brooklynn waved good bye to the lady and was then as happy as a clam :)
When we got home and told the story to daddy, I tried to trick him and tell him that Kohls was really mad and wanted to press charges, so brooklynn now has a record- at 3 years old. He didn't buy it.
Of course Brooklynn didn't steal the shoes. She just added her loot to all the other loot in the stroller.
Moral of the story is I need to keep a closer eye on what's in my stroller when I leave a store!
On our way to return the shoes...
Pink ballerina shoes.
I think this is one of those stories that will be repeated at our dinner table for years to come- teasing Brooklynn all the way! What a naughty pup, but she repented and made things right! :)
